Goals:
- to help students learn to see color in its three dimensions
- to teach a language that facilitates communication about color
- to introduce perceptual effects that can be used to enhance works of art and design
- to provide useful information that is based on well-verified, contemporary research
This follows the example of Albert Munsell, who devoted his life to clear communication about color based on the best scientific knowledge of his day. The Munsell system has endured since the early 1900s because Munsell established a firm scientific foundation for the system while addressing the concerns of artists and designers.
7th Edition, is a complete learning package that offers a full-color interactive and experimental guidebook for understanding color in all its dimensions.
It includes a full suite of interactive color charts with corresponding color chips, along with a textbook, all designed to facilitate hands-on learning of color’s aspects and effects. Using Munsell’s vocabulary to introduce color theory and the phenomena of color perception, the text provides a complete study of color use and color science, including extended discussion of visual perception, optical effects, and practical application of color phenomena in applied practices.
