Paint Color DNA Table Preview 2024

Get Hue, Value, Chroma and LRV for Paint Colors

Our Color DNA Table has notations for 6,000+ colors from major brands including Farrow & Ball and Magnolia Home!

What is the Color Category?

WHITE – but just by a smidge. It’s almost an off-white because of its 0.50 Chroma; it’s on the higher end of the range for White. This is the color for you if you want a white that’s not too warm or stark. Something to keep in mind is Simply White notoriously does not hide well; it requires more than two coats. You might get away with 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of color – your choice of product is important.

How do we know it’s a color of white? Because we have hue, value, chroma and LRV color notations that describe what colors look like. So, we can easily sort and categorize paint colors:

Whites
Value 9.12 to 10.00
Chroma less than 0.55
Off-Whites
Value 9.12 to 10.00
Chroma 0.55 to 1.15
Light Near Neutrals
Value 8.12 up to 9.12
Chroma 0.1 to 1.00
Near Neutrals
Value 0.1 up to 8.12
Chroma 0.1 to 1.00

Simply White OC-117 Color Review

It belongs to the Yellow Hue Family. If you look where it plots out on The Color Strategist Color Wheel above, you can see that it’s 8.85 Y. That means it’s towards the end of the 8 Y section and almost to 9 Y.  You can see by looking at The Color Strategist Color Wheel that Simply White belongs to the end of the Yellow Hue Family more over towards the beginning of the Green-Yellow Hue Family.

Near neutral colors of white from this Hue Family neighborhood are perceived as being warm, yet neutral in appearance.

Its Chroma means it will look cleaner and more crisp than colors of white typically described as “creamy” or “ivory”.

To test in your space, I highly recommend Samplize Paint-Peel-and-Stick Color Sample Decals.
