What is the Color Category?

Light Near Neutral – because of its Value of 9.00 and Chroma of 0.61.

Origami sits at the upper end of the Light Near Neutral range for Value. That means it’s almost as bright and light as colors of white and off-white. Also, it has more Chroma than fits in the white/off-white ranges. Too dark and too colorful to qualify as a color of white and that’s why it’s a Light Near Neutral.

What’s great about Origami is it’s a light and bright near neutral with enough Chroma to bust through the dimness typical of a north facing room – or any other room that doesn’t get a lot of natural daylight.

It’s always best to test. I recommend Samplize Peel & Stick samples because they’re made with real paint.

How do we know what color category? Because we have hue, value, chroma and LRV color notations that describe what colors look like. So, we can easily sort and categorize paint colors:

Whites
Value 9.12 to 10.00
Chroma less than 0.55
Off-Whites
Value 9.12 to 10.00
Chroma 0.55 to 1.15
Light Near Neutrals
Value 8.12 up to 9.12
Chroma 0.1 to 1.00
Near Neutrals
Value 0.1 up to 8.12
