What is the Color Category?

Light Near Neutral – because of its Value of 8.86 and Chroma of 0.84.

Shoji is a good option when you want a wall color with a smidge more colorfulness than an off-white. And its colorfulness (technically called Chroma) along with it being on the warm side of the yellow hue family, makes it a good option for interiors with a dim quality of light like a north-facing room.

It’s always best to test. I recommend Samplize Paint Peel & Stick samples because they’re made with real paint.

How can we so clearly and concisely categorize color of whites and off-whites? Because we have hue, value, chroma and LRV color notations that describe what colors look like. So, we can easily eliminate confusion and chaos. Making the task of sorting and categorizing paint colors fun and an absolute pleasure:

Chroma less than 0.55
Off-Whites

  1. Lori: I love seeing how these paint colors *fit*. Your graphic makes it so easy to see that this white will lean a bit more towards yellows and then golds. Thank you for this helpful post!
